Summer 2024 Recap: Discover the Magic of Science at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science Camps

Highlights of a Summer that Left a Lasting Impact on Budding Scientists

This summer, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science came alive with the excitement and energy of young minds exploring the wonders of science. Our 2024 Science Camps were a sold-out success, and we’re thrilled to share the highlights of a summer that left a lasting impact on 926 budding scientists.

From June 10 to August 9, our Museum was transformed into a dynamic learning environment where curiosity had no limits. Over the course of eight weeks, we presented six unique themes designed for different age groups. Each week, an average of 160 eager campers embarked on a journey of discovery, engaging in hands-on activities, interactive lessons and behind-the-scenes experiences that only our Museum Summer Camps can offer.

“Campers explored everything from the marvels of the human body in our Heart and Lung Labs to the fascinating world of animal adaptations,” said manager of teacher programs Brandon Davis. “They even embarked on imaginary space missions with our Mission to Mars program.”

Our Science Camps were designed to spark a love of learning through fun and engaging themes. Each theme was carefully crafted to ignite curiosity and encourage critical thinking, making science both exciting and accessible.

Behind-the-Scenes Access

One of the most unique aspects of our Science Camps is the exclusive access our campers receive to areas of the Museum that are usually off-limits. This summer, our young scientists got a sneak peek into the daily workings of the Museum, with behind-the-scenes tours of our Prep Lab, encounters with dermestid beetles and even the opportunity to wear their own “staff badges.” These experiences provided a deeper understanding of the scientific process and the work that goes into our exhibits.

Learning Through Exploration

Our campers didn’t just stay in one place—they explored the entire Museum. They experienced the wonders of our Infinity Theater and Gates Planetarium, took part in special visits to exhibitions like Orcas: Our Shared Future and The Power of Poison, and engaged with our Teen Science Scholars during Science on the Spots and Open Houses. Each day was filled with new discoveries, making Science Camp an adventure from start to finish.

A Commitment to Accessibility

At the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to experience the joy of learning. That’s why we partnered with community organizations to provide scholarships, transportation and on-site lunches, ensuring that our camps were accessible to as many families as possible. This commitment to inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do.

“Our goal is to create an inclusive and welcoming space where every child can explore, learn, and thrive,” said Noel Dominguez, Director of Inclusion at the Museum. “Science is for everyone, and our camps live up to this commitment by making sure every child has the chance to experience the magic of discovery.”

We couldn’t be prouder of the incredible experiences our campers had this year, and we’re already looking forward to next summer. Whether your child is passionate about dinosaurs, space, animals or the human body, our Science Camps offer something for everyone. We invite you to join us for a summer filled with exploration, learning and fun at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.
