Collection now part of global biodiversity data
As of yesterday, the DMNS Entomology Collection (and our Arachnology collection) are part of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF). Our database records so far were available only through the Symbiota Collections of Arthropods Network, and are now integrated in the world's largest database of over 965 million records. The insect collection contributes just over 94,000 records, out of our one million. Way to go. However, the map created by GBIF shows that our collection covers North America pretty well and has records from many parts of the world. We will soon resume databasing as part of the LepNet project and fill the globe with more dots.
