First, an evening in the Museum's ornithology collection

Thursday, May 12, 2011, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Observe the often subtle differences among many of the birds that migrate through Colorado in the spring. The DMNS ornithology collection houses 52,000 specimens from 1870 to the present, with a focus on the Rocky Mountain and Great Plains regions.

Then, a morning in the field with RMBO bird banders

Saturday, May 14*, 2011, 7:30-9:30 a.m. (*Rain date, Sunday, May 15)
Build off your experience at DMNS and take your bird knowledge into the field at the Rocky Mountain Bird Ob- servatory's Chatfield Banding Station to see birds, live and up close, as our ornithologists catch them in mist nets, obtain useful biological information, and then release them back into the wild. More than 80 species of birds have been harmlessly captured at the banding station. Note: Banding will continue until approximately noon, weather permitting; you are welcome to stay as long as you like.
